摘要 <p>PURPOSE:To reduce the transfer time of picture information by controlling a variable length code quantity by one picture coding to a memory capacity of the processing unit or below. CONSTITUTION:A code quantity control section 14 receives picture size information outputted from an I/O 12 to a printer. The control section 14 calculates a reference code quantity per block based on picture size information. The picture information is stored in a buffer 13 by one line block from the I/O 12 and sent to a compression processing section 15. The processing section 15 applies coding processing according to the information from the control section 14 and stores the code by one block in a memory 16. A coding area counter 17 counts the number of blocks subjected to coding processing and obtains a permissible area capacity for a prescribed compression condition based on the count and the reference code quantity. On the other hand, the code quantity stored in the memory 16 is counted by a code quantity counter 18 and a succeeding compression condition is revised based on the comparison between the count and the permissible area capacity at the control section 14. Thus, the code quantity is controlled by one path and the transfer time is reduced.</p>
