PURPOSE: To simplify the processing by using other variable length run field for run length with respect to a DCTAC coefficient of image data and coding run length of non-null AC coefficient independently of run length in the coding system that reduce a data amount by the RLC method in the case of transmission and storage of an image signal. CONSTITUTION: The coding system is configured with a CPU 10 that controls the entire system, a ROM 20 that stores execution programs by the CPU 10 and coding tables, a RAM 30 that receives and stores DCTAC coefficients of image data and provides an output of them to the CPU 10 under a prescribed control, and a scanning section 40 that scans AC coefficients stored in the RAM 30 in zigzag under the control of the CPU 10. By using the configuration, non-null coefficients only are coded independently of run length the capacity required for coding tables is reduced for coding, the decoding process is simplified and coding for lots of categories of data is attained. |
