A flexible implant, esp. a mammary prosthesis, comprises (a) a flexible casing contg. (b) a hydrogen which is a block polymer of polyoxyethylene and polyoxypropylene. (a) The casing is of a silicone resin. (b) The polymer forms 15-20 wt.% of the hydrogen, and has formula (I) x = about 98; y = about 67. The hydrogen contains a component which can bind water molecules, esp. 3-6% of polyvinylpyrrolidine. Partic. the hydrogen contains 19% of the polymer and 5% of polyvinylpyrrolidine, in soln. in distilled water, and may contain a dye, esp. aq. eosine. USE/ADVANTAGE - Other applications are as testicular prosthesis, or in the calf of the leg. The hydrogen-contg. block polymer is biocompatible, biodegradable (in case of breakage, it is eliminated by the kidneys in 48 h.) non-toxic, non-carcinogenic, stable, sterilisable, radiopaque, and heat-labile (facilitating use at the temps. at which it is handled). The elasticity and density are close to those of the living tissues which are replaced.
