The improved tooling for the production of sheet metal connecting joints uses at least two tools. The first tool (1) incorporates a die with an anvil (12) and some shields (16) applied elastically against the lateral wall of the anvil (12) and mounted to slide on a guide surface (14) of the second tool (2) against the action of the elastic member. The shields (16) of the second tool (2) incorporate an internal lateral extension (21) that covers a part of the upper surface of the anvil (12) in the neighbourhood of its lateral wall. USE/ADVANTAGE - The tooling is used for producing connecting joints for sheet metal by clinching them together, it is particularly applicable for joining aluminium sheets. The major advantage of the tooling is that it produces such joints with an improved aesthetic appearance, in particular reducing the height of the relief element of the joint giving a much flatter joint. It is particularly useful for thin sheet where it produces a flat joint without a fold around the edge.
