PURPOSE: To prevent deterioration in the overall network capability by providing a composite network where a line switching multicolored network and a packet switching network are combined so as to avoid over-rate. CONSTITUTION: The network is made up of an optical line switching multi-colored network R1 and a packet switching network R2, and a plurality of terminal equipments S1, S2...SN are connected to the two networks. In the case of line switching, each terminal equipment is in operation at a wavelength λce (at transmission) and a wavelength λcr (at reception). A couple of the wavelength bands are different from all terminal equipments except that a transmission wavelength of one terminal equipment is equal to a reception wavelength of the other terminal equipment in the mutual communication. On the other hand, in the case of packet switching, each terminal equipment is in operation at a wavelength λo . Thus, in the case of sending information to the packet switching network, an over-rate caused by division of transmission information is avoided.
