PURPOSE:To provide the liquid crystal display device which can form a black matrix without degrading a display grade with simple constitution. CONSTITUTION:Switching elements 3 of an MIM structure consisting of a lower metal 12-insulator 15-upper metal 18 is formed on a glass substrate 11 of an active matrix array substrate 1. Wiring electrodes 4 to be connected to these switching elements 3 are also formed of the MIM structure consisting of the lower metal 13-insulator 16-upper metal 21. Oxide films are formed on the front surfaces of the upper metals 21, 22 to form the insulators 23, 24. The black matrix 8 is formed of the upper metals 21, 22 and the insulators 23, 24. Since the black matrix 8 is the upper metals 21, 22 and the insulators 23, 24 and, therefore, even if the thick insulators 23, 24 are formed on the surfaces of the upper metals 21, 22, the resistance of the wiring electrodes 4 is not affected and the increase in wiring capacity is negligible. The increase of a time constant is lessened and the degradation in display grade is obviated. |
