PURPOSE:To make the brightness of a displayed picture by projection type liquid crystal projection higher. CONSTITUTION:This projection is provided with a light source 20, a spherical mirror 21, a condenser lens 22, a dichroic mirrors 23, 24 and 25, and 1st-3rd cholesteric liquid crystal cells (left-handed circularly-polarized light) 26, 27 and 28 which reflect the left-handed circularly-polarized light component of reflected light by the dichroic mirrors on the optical axis of the reflected light and transmit the right-handed circularly-polarized light component of the reflected light. In the case of irradiating liquid crystal panels 13, 14 and 15 constituting the displayed picture with the transmitted light (circularly-polarized light) of the cholesteric liquid crystal cell through lambda/4 wavelength plates 10, 11 and 12 respectively, the reflected light from the liquid crystal cells 26-28 is returned to the side of the light source and the spherical mirror, reflected and polarized by the spherical mirror 21, and the light of the right-handed circularly-polarized light component by the polarization is transmitted through the liquid crystal cells 26-28. |
