PURPOSE:To increase charge/discharge capacity by using, as an electrode material, a carbonaceous material in which the negative electrode of a secondary battery is subjected to surface treatment by means of surface oxidation to noncrystallize the surface layer. CONSTITUTION:A carbonaceous material such as thermally decomposing carbons, cokes, and graphites capable of doping and dedoping ions of alkali metals is subjected to surface treatment by means of surface oxidation such as chemical oxidation, electrolytic oxidation, and gas phase oxidation to noncrystallize the surface layer. When a secondary battery is formed by using this carbonaceous material as a negative electrode, a micro structural change is caused on the electrode surface, and doping and dedoping of lithium ion become easy to cause to increase charge/discharge capacity. As an electrolyte, a nonaqueous electrolyte dissolved in a nonaqueous solvent with a lithium salt as the electrolyte is preferably used. As a positive electrode, a transition metal oxide such as manganese dioxide and a transition metal chalcogen compound such as titanium disulfide can be used. |
