The vertically and horizontally adjustable counter holder (7) is arranged on the side of the lift table (1) and stack (2) opposite the engagement side of the horizontally movable slider (5) which adjoins the edge of one or more workpiece during the sliding transfer process. The side of the counter holder facing the lift table or stack (2) is designed as a horizontal cutting edge (11) which can be inserted into the stack. A setting spike (13) can be placed from above against the counter holder and has a relatively displaceable holding down member (14) which can be placed at the edge against the end side of the stack. The upper side of the counter holder interacting with the setting spike is a substantially horizontal surface (10). The spike and holding down member are set on a support (12) which seen in the slide-off direction of the workpieces is movable horizontally over the lift table. USE/ADVANTAGE - Loading device for sawing machines is esp. for handling planks of wood and adapts better to different thicknesses.
