The seal includes a sealing device which is introduced into the pipe with two or more elastically deformable membranes (9,10), which contact the inner wall of the pipe under pressure. A controllable compressed fluid source is connected to the sealing device. The sealing device has a fixed section (4) and two adjacent, mutually relatively movable sealing sections (5,8) with several actuators (6,7,16) connecting the sealing sections and connected to the compressed fluid source. The outer edges of the membranes are connected to the fixed section and the inner edges are connected to the movable sections. USE/ADVANTAGE - For sealing pipe which is then placed under pressure to check for leaks. Simple to uses, insensitive to wear. Seal may be controlled by internal pressure.
