A first level detector (5) determines the level of a demodulated signal from a detector of a stereophonic radio receiver and generates a first level signal. In dependence on this level signal, a separator signal is generated in a separation control (6). A stereo decoder (4) is responsive to the separator signal to control the division of the signal into the right and left channels in such a way that the separation is amplified when the detected level of the demodulated signal is higher than a predetermined level.
