The appts. to test at least one yarn-type material has a guide (1) between the light transmitter (3) and light receiver (6) near the light beam (4). Each yarn material (2) is taken off across the light beam (4). USE/ADVANTAGE - The assembly is for monitoring yarns and wire materials for thickened zones and lint, such as bands of yarns travelling at speeds of 200-1500 m/min. The operation takes yarn oscillation and the like into account, to give an accurate monitoring action and detection of variations between nominal and actual material structure.
