The present invention provides a composite non-woven fiber material comprising at least one stainless steel fiber layer (3, 3 min ) and at least one carbon fiber layer (2), the alternating stainless steel fiber layers (3, 3 min ) and carbon fiber layers (2) being intimately interlocked to form an integrated composite material, at least one exposed surface layer thereof being a stainless steel fiber layer (3, 3 min ). The invention further provides a method for producing these composite materials and their use, particularly as high temperature resistant sealing, filter and cushioning materials, and for conveyor belts.
