PURPOSE:To obtain a compound which exhibits a photochromism based on ring opening and closure reaction, causes clear development and disappearance of color, and also is excellent in durability in repetitive use by reacting a fulgide compound and an aromatic amine. CONSTITUTION:A fulgide compound is reacted with an aromatic amine to obtain an iminobutyrolactone compound represented by formula I, II or III, wherein R1, R2 and R3 are each an alkyl, aralkyl or aryl, or R2 and R3 may combine to form a cycloalkylidene group; Het is an aromatic heterocyclic residue; Ar is an aryl; and they may each be substituted. The fulgides used may preferably be those having heterocyclic groups in that they are excellent in light resistance, thermal resistance and durability in repetitive use, the heterocyclic groups being preferably those substituted by hardly migrating groups such as methyl in view of the durability. |
