PURPOSE:To reduce a period of time to check a character generator by providing a control unit which specifies the diagnosis processing method for the character generator at the time of power source input or resetting. CONSTITUTION:Switches 7-9 are provided on a control unit, and the switch 7 is user at the time of a normal process, i.e., when the diagnosis of the content of a character generator 4 is executed each time. The switch 8 is used when the diagnosis for the content of the character generator 4 is executed every other time. The switch 9 is used when the diagnosis for the content of the character generator 4 is not executed at all. For a printer device which is constituted in such a manner, an input/output port 6 identifies input information from the switches 7-9 at the time of power source input and resetting, and informs the input information to a CPU 1. The CPU 1 decides the diagnosis processing method for the character generator 4 by the information from the input/output port 6, and a process is performed conforming to the decision. |
