PURPOSE:To provide a method and apparatus for readily, quickly, and non- destructively measuring the depth of hardening in a relatively wide extent range from the surface layer part to the inner surface part of a cylindrical body to be inspected. CONSTITUTION:The depth of a hardening is measured by utilizing the quick increase of high frequency damping factor of a penetrating ultrasonic wave in a hardened border layer with a non-destructive hardening depth measuring device an ultrasonic wave transmitting/receiving part 1 for transmitting/receiving the ultrasonic wave, transmitting and receiving pieces for sending and receiving an ultrasonic wave beam into and from an inspected object by transmitting pulses, a setting holder 4 for holding both transmitting and receiving pieces so that the ultrasonic wave beam penetrates to the desired depth, an ultrasonic wave frequency analyzing device 5, a pattern analysis calculation section 6 and a memory section 7 for storing and outputting the result according to a request. The depth of the hardening can be non-destructively, easily and quickly measured by stable measurement without needing any consideration to the effect of ultrasonic wave damping caused by the contact of the transmitting and receiving pieces. |
