PURPOSE:To produce a city gas comprising a methane-rich reformed gas at a low cost on a simple apparatus by desulfurizing a feed hydrocarbon using an Nicontg. adsorbent and then subjecting the hydrocarbon to a low-temp. steam reforming on a single-step reformer. CONSTITUTION:A feed hydrocarbon FD is introduced into a heating oven 1, heated to a temp. suitable for desulfurization, and fed to a desulfurization tower 2. Host part of sulfur compds., such as hydrogen sulfide and mercaptan, contained in the hydrocarbon are removed as zinc sulfide in a zinc oxide layer 2A installed in the upper part of the tower 2. Then the residual sulfur compds. are removed in a nickel-contg. adsorbent layer 2B installed in the lower part of the tower 2. The desulfurized hydrocarbon is superheated in a superheating oven 3 together with a superheated process steam PS, supplied to a single-step reformer 4, and subjected to a low-temp. steam reforming, giving a city gas comprising a methane-rich reformed gas. Thus the step of desulfurization by hydrogenation can be dispensed with. |
