PURPOSE:To reduce the consuming power and to constitute an apparatus at a low cost. CONSTITUTION:A self-oscillating multi-mode laser 11a is used as a light source 11. When the laser 11a emits light by a driving current 1mA or more lower than an oscillating threshold current I1, the output light is introduced into a light splitter 12 of an optical fiber 24 by a GRIN lens 23 with a spherical end. The output light from the light splitter 12 is sent into an optical fiber coil 16 as a clockwise light and a counter-clockwise light via a polarizer 113 and a light splitter 14. The angular velocity around an axial center of the optical fiber coil 16 is detected as the phase difference of the clockwise light and the counter-clockwise light. The laser 11a is coherent as low as a super luminescent diode. An inexpensive laser for a CD player can be utilized.
