The separator includes a comb filter for 1H-comb-filtering a video signal of three serial horizontal scanning lines, and outputting 1H-delayed video signal and 2H-delayed video signal, a band-pass filter for band-pass filtering the 1H-delayed video signal, a multiplexer for receiving the first and second comb data and the chrominance signal of the band-pass filter and outputting it, a luminance separator for removing the chrominance signal of the multiplexer from the 1H-delayed video signal and separating a luminance signal therefrom, a correlation data detector for detecting first, second and third correlation data, and a correlation coefficient generator for detecting the correlation degree of chrominance signal and luminance signal between the horizontal scanning lines and generating a correlation detecting coefficient.
