摘要 <p>PURPOSE:To obtain flat surfaces of oriented films without attacking the surfaces of ferroelectric substances and to provide liquid crystal molecules having excellent uniformity of orientation by forming the oriented films by a vapor deposition polymn. method. CONSTITUTION:Transparent electrodes 25, 30 are formed on a pair of substrates 23, 31 and the nonlinear elements of the ferroelectric substrates 26 consisting of polyvinylidene fluoride, polyvinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene copolymer or polyvinylidene fluoride-tetrafluoroethylene copolymer are formed on the one transparent electrode 25. A pair of the liquid crystal oriented films 28, 29 are formed on metallic electrodes 27 and the other transparent electrode 25 and are then subjected to an orientation treatment. Spacers 33 are sprayed between the oriented films. The liquid crystal 32 is injected between the oriented films 28 and 29 and is sealed. The liquid crystal oriented films 28, 29 are formed by the vapor deposition polymn. method using polyimide or polyurea and, therefore, the erosion of the surface of the ferroelectric substance 26 by an org. solvent is prevented.</p>
