PURPOSE: To provide a device and method for converting electronic data in which a fault and a problem related with a data converting device can be reduced. CONSTITUTION: An input file 185 in which electronic data are set is inputted to a conversion block 186, and when the first segment of the input file 185 is received, one set of conversion rules 187 indicating an conversion envelop level are loaded according to the data format of the file 185, and a method for processing a header segment and a trailer segment is judged. Then, data are converted, that is, for example, a numeric value is compressed into a further small bit number, or a character string is converted into a number. Moreover, the data are stored in an application storage area 189 related with an application record, or stored in a related temporary storage area 188 which holds data and information until the data can be transferred. A record is transferred from the application storage area 189 to an output file 190 when an instruction is generated from a control table. |
