PURPOSE: To reduce NOx in flue gas by drawing the flue gas through a passage, jetting a fuel gas through the passage so that the resulting mixture gas is swirled in a mixture zone. CONSTITUTION: Aprimary fuel gas jet passing through a passage 54 causes flue gas from a furnace space to be drawn into the passage 54, so that the flue gas is mixed with the primary fuel gas. The resulting mixture gas is discharged from the passage 54 against the inner surface of a wall 36 adjacent to a ledge 40. The mixture gas discharged from the passage 54 is swirled around the mixture zone, that is, above the ledge 40 and adjacent to the inner surface 38 of the wall 36. As a result, flue gas of low NOx level is produced.
