The control device is for a stepper motor (10) having at least two windings (1,2) fed through a PWM linear amplifier (11,12), having its input connected to the output of D/A converter (13,14), to which digital signals are applied from a memory (15,16). A logic control circuit (17) is used to address the memory (15,16). The logic circuit permits interruption of bidirectional current flowing in the windings. The circuit controls pulse signals. Each pulse has the shape of a quarter sinusoid, with the pulse length much shorter than the pulse interval. The pulses are amplified by the linear amplifiers (11,12) and fed to the two windings (1,2) of the stepper motor (10). The linear amplifier receives the digital information from the D/A convertor allowing the pulse width and feed current to the winding to be varied according to the speed and movement of a spacial object to be moved. ADVANTAGE - Consumes less current than previous stepper drives with improved reliability.
