PURPOSE:To provide a high-capacity, excellent-cycle nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery using a graphite negative electrode by adding pyridine or its kind to electrolyte mainly formed of propylene carbonate. CONSTITUTION:A secondary battery is formed with a negative plate 1 mainly using graphite as active material, a positive plate 2 possible to charge and discharge and nonaqueous electrolyte 4 containing alkaline metal salt. The nonaqueous electrolyte is mainly formed of propylene carbonate and contains pyridine derivative, such that pyridine and/or one or two of third, fourth and fifth-place ones are/is replaced.
