The invention relates to a protective coating for components made of titanium and titanium-based alloys and intermetallic compounds of titanium with an intermediate layer of metals and with an outer layer. Said outer layer comprises an intermetallic compound of titanium and aluminium with the addition of vanadium, chromium, manganese, niobium, molybdenum, tantalum or tungsten or mixtures thereof, constituting a proportion by weight of up to 6 %, or consists of a copper-aluminium alloy or a metal-chromium-aluminium-yttrium alloy or a highly heat resistant alloy based on nickel, cobalt or iron. Here the intermediate layer consists of platinum, rhodium, tantalum, palladium, vanadium, zirconium, molybdenum or niobium or alloys thereof. The protective coating is advantageously usable as oxidation, frictional corrosion or reflection protection to prevent heat radiation and, in motive power unit construction, titanium, titanium alloys or intermetallic compounds with titanium are used partly as an overall coating for rotor and guide vanes. |
