Ignition system for opposed-cylinder internal combustion engine - uses electronic distribution circuit with paired sparking plugs supplied simultaneously via separate transformers

Each pair of opposed cylinders (71-74) is fired with two simultaneous sparks from a separate ignition transformer (43-46). A transistor switch is turned on by a buffer amplifier (83-86) driven by the controller (3A) with timing derived from a crankshaft angle sensor (1A) and other sensors (2) of eg engine speed and load. The sec winding of each transformer is connected between the sparking plugs of two cylinders of different pairs so that those of each pair are fired by the same ignition pulse (IB1 or IB2) acting through separate buffer amplifiers (83, 86 or 84, 85). ADVANTAGE - Requires no mechanical distributor and can be implemented with simplified construction ensuring high operational security.
