A thermoformable composite article which comprises a substrate to the surface of which a multilayer coating adheres is described. The coating comprises an inner layer in contact with the substrate comprising either a thermoplastic polymer having a VICAT softening point of at least 70 degree C and with an initial melting point (determined by the DSC method) of at least 140 degree C, or a thermohardening polymer which can cross-link at the temperature at which the article is thermoformed. The coating also comprises an outer layer comprising either a thermoplastic polymer having a melting point within the range 200-350 degree C, which may be arranged so as to be cross-linked during or after thermoforming of the article.
