New polyhydroxy cpds. (I) are obtd. by reacting epoxy cpds. with alkyl and/or alkenyl oligoglycosides of formula R1-O-(G)p R1 = 1-22C aliphatic hydrocarbon gp. with 0-1 C=C bond; G = 5-6C sugar residue; and p = 1-10. USE/ADVANTAGE - Use of (I) in washing, rinsing and cleanign compsns., in prodn. for care of the hair and the body, and in prepn. of polymers is claimed. (I) wet hard surfaces, and emulsify oils in aq. systems. They can be used in alkyd resins, condense through the OH gp. and any remaining epoxy gps., and are of esp. use in prodn. of casating resins and polyurethane foams. (I) are clear liq. or viscous fluids, with surface-active properties. As polyol components, they condense easily, e.g. with isocyanates.
