Self-aligning and compliantly mounted deburring stones (15) are spaced around a mandrel (14) in accordance with slots in the ring to be deburred. The mandrel can be entered into the ring (1) and the deburring stones reciprocated along the slots, which may be parallel to or inclined to the ring axis. The bar-shaped deburring stones (15) are narrower than the slot width and longer than the slots. The mandrel (14) is carried in a tool body (18), which can be slightly rotated backwards and forwards in the ring bore, causing the deburring stone to rock over the corner of the slot. The axial and rotary movements remove the burrs left by machining and produce a small radius on the slot corner.
