The input section (12) of the controller (10) receives signals from an accelerator pedal position sensor (24) and other sensors (34-36) of various parameters of the vehicle or of its propulsion unit. The output section (18) controls the air intake (40) and other equipment such as fuel metering valves, ignition timing, automatic transmission and electronically operated clutch movements etc. These sections are linked to a CPU (14) and memory (16) by a data bus (20). The controller is adapted to various operational modes with different proportional, integral and/or differential factors or tabulated values. ADVANTAGE - Improved regulation is achieved with dynamic range, precision etc. adapted to requirements of different modes of operation.
