A loading device for a disc cartridge having a disc rotatably contained in a cartridge main body is disclosed. The loading device includes a cartridge holder, a shutter opening unit, a rotational driving unit, a pair of positioning pins and a driving unit. The cartridge holder is fixed at a predetermined position of the loading device and holds the disc cartridge introduced into the loading device. The shutter opening device is provided on the cartridge holder for opening a shutter for the disc cartridge. The rotational driving unit runs the disc contained in the disc cartridge into rotation. The positioning pins are engaged in the positioning holes formed in the disc cartridge for positioning the disc cartridge in the horizontal direction. The driving unit includes a first driving part for lifting the rotational driving unit and a second driving part for lifting the positioning pins. The driving unit causes the positioning pins to be engaged in the positioning holes in the disc cartridge temporally in advance of the rotational driving unit being engaged in the positioning holes by driving the second driving part earlier than the first driving part. <IMAGE>
