The sealing device (10) has a carrier (10a), which is composed of dimensionally stable material. It is provided with an elastically flexible sealing part (8) sealing the cross-section of the tank filler neck. Since the sealing device (10) is permanently provided on the tank filler neck (5), the release of harmful fuel vapours into the surroundings, even when the tank filler cap is fitted, is entirely prevented.
