The mower has a coupling system (3) which is rigidly connectible to a tractor hitching mechanism, and a housing (4) pivoted relative to the coupling so the mower can be switched between its operating and transport positions. The housing is mounted on top of a retractable support (84) which takes part of the mower's weight when it is uncoupled from the tractor in its transport position. The support contacts the ground at two or more points on either side of the coupling system's lengthwise axis. It consists of one or more retractable legs (97) on each side, connected to a lengthwise bar with feet (105,107). The legs are deployed and retracted, for example, by hydraulic cylinders (101).
