<p>The invention's object is to augment the data transfer function of a single telephone line (40) by devising a procedure for the transmission of different categories of signals from a center (10) to a user's home (30). To this end, the invention assumes the prior existence of a data transmission device which transmits signals from an independent center (10) through a telephone line (40) to a user's home (30) using the idle time on the telephone line (40), said telephone line (40) connecting the switching system (21) of the local telephone exchange (20) with the telephone (40) in the user's home (40). The center (10) is equipped with a database (12), which holds a plurality of items of compound data each made up of a specified number of related data groups (X, Y), and with a transmission means (13), which accesses the database (12), reads the data groups (X, Y) in order from a single item of compound data, converts the signals to analog form and outputs them to the telephone line (40). The user's home (30) is equipped with a receiving means (32), which converts signals received from the telephone line (40) digital form and, when input of the specified number of data groups has been completed, outputs all said data groups simultaneously. The user's home (30) is also equipped with a specified number of terminals (33; 33a, 33b), which operate in accordance with the content of the groups of data output by the receiving means (32). This invention enables data groups (X, Y) relating to different categories of data such as music data and image data, for example, to be transmitted in combination from said center (10) and similarly output in combination in said user's home (30) thereby significantly augmenting the data transmission function of a single telephone line (40). <IMAGE></p> |
