PURPOSE:To efficiently perform reduction and amination reaction, especially in water and produce serinol or its derivative in high yield by reducing and aminating hydroxyacetone in the presence of a specific supported catalyst. CONSTITUTION:Dihydroxyacetone is made to react with an aminating agent and hydrogen in the presence of a supported catalyst composition containing only Rh as a catalyst component or a supported catalyst containing two or more kinds of components selected from a group consisting of Pd, Pt, Rh, Ru and Ir as catalyst components at 0-150 deg.C, preferably 20-80 deg.C to carry out reduction and amination reaction and provide serinol or its derivative. As a two- component catalyst in the above-mentioned catalyst, a catalyst containing Pd as a main component and combinedly using Rh or Ru or a catalyst containing Pt as a main component and combinedly using Rh is preferably used. As a support of the supported catalyst, activated carbon, alumina, silica or zeolite is exemplified. |
