SUNBURN STOPPING AGENT

PURPOSE: To obtain an anti-suntan agent useful for protecting the skin from ultraviolet rays by using a laminar double hydroxide as an active component. CONSTITUTION: This anti-suntan agent contains 0.05-50 wt.% of a laminar double hydroxide of the formula (M is a bivalent metal or Li; N is a trivalent metal; X is an ultraviolet-absorbing anion existing as an interlaminar substance between metal layers bonded through OH). The ultraviolet-absorbing anion has strong absorption in the range of 290-400 nm and an example of the anion is p-aminobenzimidazole-5-sulfonate. The amount of the interlaminar anion X is >=5 mol.% based on the existing total interlaminar anions. The laminar double hydroxide mixed with the ultraviolet-absorbing interlaminar anion can be produced by two steps comprising a step to prepare a laminar double hydroxide containing certain kinds of the other anions and an ion-exchanging step to substitute at least some anions with the ultraviolet-absorbing anion.
