PURPOSE: To efficiently remove org. toxic materials (such as org. chlorines, insect resist agents and wool treatment byproducts) from water by bringing water into contact with hydrotalcite-like materials. CONSTITUTION: Org. toxic materials are absorbed from water by means of a substance expressed by the formula: Mk+m Nn+p (OH)2 Az <y-> x.H2 O (wherein, M is 1+ or 2+ cation or combination thereof, N is 3+ or 4+ cation or combination thereof, k is the total molar fraction of respective 1+ cation, m is the total molar fraction of respective 2+ cation, n is the total molar fraction of respective 3+ cation, p is the total molar fraction of respective 4+ cation, either of k or m can be 0 and both cannot be 0, and m or n and p can be 0, k+m+n+p=1, Az <y-> is an anion with charge y- and molar fraction z, or a combination of identical or different y- anion, k+2m+3n+4p-2-zy=0, x is within a range of 1-100).
