PURPOSE: To obtain an opacifier for imparting a pearl color to a composition comprising water as a base, resisting phase separation and assisting suspension of a water-insoluble compound into the composition comprising water as a base. CONSTITUTION: This opacifier comprises (A) an amine of formula I (R1 is a >=16C alkyl; R2 and R3 are each H, a 1-22C alkyl, benzyl or phenyl) or formula II (R4 is a >=13C alkyl; R<5> is 1-4C alkylene; R6 and R7 are each a 1-4C alkyl) or formula III (R8 and R9 are each H or a 1-4C alkyl) or its combination and (B) an acid selected from the group consisting of an inorganic acid, a <=22C aliphatic carboxylic acid and an aromatic carboxylic acid and its combination in a sufficient amount in which no amino solid particle essentially exists in a composition. The opacifier is added to a composition comprising water as a base so as to make the composition comprise 1-10wt.%, preferably 1.5-5wt.% of the amine and 0.05-5wt.%, preferably 0.2-3wt.% of the acid.
