A travelling wave tube of the kind in which microwave energy is coupled to or from the delay line by a waveguide or other high frequency transmission line has a coupling device which is of the coupling hole and tuning stubtype, the shape of which is not a circular shape symmetrical about the tube axis. A diaphragm portion through which the tuning stub projects may have radial slots in an otherwise circular aperture, or the aperture may be of elliptical, rectangular or irregular polygonal shape. In addition, the tuning stub may be bifurcated, or of elliptical, rectangular or irregular polygonal shape. |
