PURPOSE:To develope a square-shaped battery which generates no breakage owing to a thermal contraction by arranging and fixing the bare cell of a storage battery in a metal mould placing a specific clearance, and after that, injection-forming a thermoplastic resin to the clearance with the metal mould, so as to form an insulating layer on the outer surface of the bare cell. CONSTITUTION:An outer metal case 1 is used as the lead 8 of a negative electrode, and the bare cell B of a square-shaped alkaline storage battery which consists of a metallic lid 2, a positive electrode terminal 3, a positive electrode 4, a bag-form separator 5 including the positive electrode 4, a U-shape negative electrode 6, and a lead 7 of the positive electrode, are arranged in the cavity of a metal mould 20 which can be divided to the left part and the right part, forming a space 23, the metal mould 20 is closed, and after an injection moulding machine 25 is combined to the metal mould cavity 21 through a runner 24, a thermoplastic resin is pressure-poured in the space 23, cooled and solidified, and a resin insulating layer is formed to the outer surface of the bare cell B. The insulating layer can be formed on the surface of the outer metal case 1 of the bare cell B in a very simple process, and a square- shaped battery which generates no contraction breakage of the insulating layer even though the battery is heated can be obtained. |
