A plate (10) formed by hot rolling is shaped to embody integral tubes (22,23) suitable to carry the liquids whose heat is to be transferred. The plate is made from a stainless steel or plastic which is unaffected by the transfer liquids or the working substance. The plate (10) may be bent into a U shape, covered with the working substance (51) and inserted into the cylindrical envelope of the heat exchanger. Diffusion of gas to the working substance is assisted by a space (62) and the envelope comprises a metal case (54) with internal and external insulation (63,53). ADVANTAGE - The exchanger and working substance are not in contact with the envelope, the mass and thermal capacity are low and the design is compact.
