PURPOSE:To improve the economy of the optical receiver for coherent light communication by a balance type polarization diversity system. CONSTITUTION:This optical receiver has an optical coupler 1 which mixes signal light and locally oscillated light and outputs first and second branched light rays, a polarization beam splitter 2 which separates the first and second branched light rays to first to fourth polarizing beams and a light receiving section 3 which consist of photodetectors 7 to 10 to be made incident with the first to fourth polarizing beams from the polarization beam splitter 2. The polarization beam splitter 2 is provided adjustably by parallel moving within the plane perpendicular to the first to fourth polarizing beams with respect to the optical coupler 1 or by the turning between a holder 11 and a flange 12. |
