The optical fibres (21, 22) are bound together in the form of a ribbon by flexible resin (5). The ribbon is then rolled up around a central core (10). The core is shaped (11) in its longitudinal plane to accept the fibres and contains two electrical conductors (12) for power or signal transmission purposes. The rolled up cable incorporates a cord (13) which projects from the ends of the cable. This cord is used to tear open the resin and re-form the ribbon cable. ADVANTAGE - Enables cylindrical cable to be connected to ribbon cable without need for special connector.
