PURPOSE:To provide an automatic focusing device capable of selecting a focus detecting area used to decide a final defocusing quantity out of plural focus detecting areas set in a photographic image plane for every area and capable of displaying a focusing state in all the focus detecting areas. CONSTITUTION:This device is provided with a selection means 104 selecting for each focus detecting area of a focus detecting means 101 whether or not the defocusing quantity detected in the focus detecting area is used to decide the final defocusing quantity, a defocusing quantity decision means 102 deciding the final defocusing quantity based on the defocusing quantity in the focus detecting area selected to be used, and a driving means 103 driving a photographing optical system 100 based on the final defocusing quantity. |
