A work bench has an open work area (1) with work bench top (7) surrounded by cavity walls (6). The work area is linked to the pressurised side of a blower (3) by a filter (5). There are openings on the bench top (7) which extract air from the front and rear of the working area (1), which are linked bia the cavity walls (6) with the suction side of the blower (3) and the effluent air outlet (4). The novelty is that the bench top (7) openings (13, 14)funnel into the vertical filter box (8) and vertical filter inserts (15), which are linked with the working area (1) cavity walls (6). USE/ADVANTAGE - The work bench is for use in chemical and pharmaceutical laboratories. The bench enhances the safety levels of personnel dealing with poisonous pharmaceuticals or dangerous substances such as dioxin.
