The lifting system is for a load (3) standing on a frame or pallet (1) with cable attachment points (6) at the base. Wires (4,5) attached to these points extend upwards and slightly outwards to attachment points (14) on a lifting frame (11). The attachment points (14) are on downward extending arms at the end of one or more horizontal cross-members. Further wires (8,9) extend upward and inward from the ends of the cross-members to a hook (7) attached to a crane.
