The device has at least one sensor (12) esp. an ultrasonic sensor, attached to mounting ring (10) enclosing the pipe (1) and rotatable within a housing (2) on a bearing (6) attached to the housing. The bearing is a bearing ring in the plane of the mounting ring and attached to a housing wall. The bearing and mounting rings have mutually facing inner (6b) and outer (10a) annular surfaces forming the bearing surfaces. The bearing ring is thinner than the mounting ring and carries a sealing element (7) on its inner face which contacts the pipe. USE/ADVANTAGE - Esp. for extruded plastic pipe. Simple bearing is easily installed and operates without problems over long periods.
