An a.c. electrical connector has a plug (5) with built-in contact bushes (6) that engage pins (3) when inserted into a socket (8). The pins project from a centre section (4) formed on the main section of the socket. The socket is produced with a flange (10) that allows the unit to be fixed to a panel. The flange also provides a mounting for a hinged cover (12) that can enclose the socket when no plug is connected. The internal base of the socket is fitted with a flexible sealing ring (14). ADVANTAGE - Ensures high security, e.g. against short circuits when exposed to rough conditions, e.g. when supplying power to cement mixer which may be cleaned by hosing.
