Over the length and breadth of the ship hull are part tank holds and partly between the tank holds and the remaining holds coffer dams are arranged. The part tank holds(8,9,11) and the operating tanks(5,6) together with the coffer dams (10) the double-walled intermediate walls (35,36) and the floor of the cargo holds are filled with glass wool blown in the high temp. range. The individual glass fibres are bound with long-chain starch (polysaccharides)and silicon to form a cuttable, mat-form grid arrangement and fitted on the inner wall of the tank or cargo hold(5,6,8,9,11). The individual glass fibres are coated with a mixt. of silicon and starch(7-10 wt.%), press together at a temp. of around 150 deg. C and dried.
