Method of regenerating a used phosphating bath consists of treating the bath with active carbon, 10-50 s/l of active carbon is added, followed by intensive stirring and then filtering to remove the carbon. The carbon is added as a powder or in the form of an aqueous slurry. The carbon is stirred into the bath for 5-10 mins. before filtering out. The phosphate bath can be discontinuously treated at intervals or continuously treated. The treatment is carried out at 80-90 deg. C.. USE/ADVANTAGE - For phosphating baths used for iron and steel surface coatings. The active carbon removes the organic material or its decomposition product resulting rom acceleration, inhibitors, oil and soap residue present in the bath. The leads to an increase in the bath life without the worry of inferior phosphate coatings.
